The first time I picked up a guitar was when I was 14 years old; ironically inspired by father and the only time we ever spoke the same language. One thing I had in common with both my father and guitars was that I never really knew much about either of them. I spent years learning how to play the guitar on and off and fortunately I can say that I got to a decent level skill wise. However, it has only been in the last 2 years that I have finally been able to comment majority of my time practising and learning so many new things.

The more I play the more I discover and one thing of certain is that I have learned to appreciate the sound of a great guitar and more so than ever I has be become an aspiring avid collector. Tone, warmth and body are a few of many elements to mention that a guitarist seeks in their weapons of choice.

Now by no means will I ever say that you need a great guitar to be a great player but it is sure as hell makes for an amazing addictive experience.

One such very experience happened to me last weekend at a venue called The Farm where I had the pleasure of playing.

Nonetheless after all the musicians sat down for a couple drinks and conversation; naturally about music and guitars. I was in my element. Among the banter, on the other side of the table a guy I had met that night, pulls out a guitar that completely hypnotised from the first spilt second. It was, deep red, with beautiful curves and elements that just screamed perfection. Like hen Wonder Woman walks into the ball dressed in that blue dressed, gracefully concealing a sword.

The gentleman all chatted about this guitar and in Thai and I understand what I could. He looks at me and my amazement at his guitar; holds it out in front of him and says, "Ow len mai krub" (Would you like to play it?)

In nervous voice, like he was handing me the keys to his Rolls Royce and I have only ever low end cars; I said "Dai mai kha, sure na ka". (Can I? Are you sure?) because I know how clumsy I can be and the risk of dropping his baby was a vision I soon shook out of my mind.

I took hold of it gently, (it was light but had body) and cradled it in my lap and ready my playing position. Breathing in out and clearing my mind so that I did not embarrass myself in front of well seasoned musicians. I slowly began to play Pachelbel's Canon in D and when I realised it had the most beautiful natural reverb and sustain - (UNPLUGGED AND UNPEDALLED!) I immediately feel in love like I have never fallen in love with any other guitar. From Canon I went on to improve with some scales and it was as though there was butter between my fingers and the strings!

Each note played felt like I suddenly knew what it meant to play a great guitar. By no means did my skills improve but I definitely the ease, the seduction and merging of myself and that guitar.

The entire setup is impeccable!
